Congratulations Eric Owens

Today has been a banner day for opera posts. Well, it also is a banner day for opera - John Adams' "Doctor Atomic" premieres, and Eric Owens is in the cast. Eric was Dr. Bartolo in the very first "Nozze" I ever designed.

More or less talk on the radio

So if you're over here reading, that means you listen to the radio on occasion. If you came here from Waiter Rant, then turn up your speakers and listen. :)
A question to those of you out there in radio-land...do you prefer more or less talk?
Seriously, folks. If you are listening to an opera, would you prefer more "break-ins" to describe the action or give commentary, or do you prefer straight-through, all music, no talk?

If you're going to be Down Under anyway ...

Go audtion for Operatunity.

Today's featured opera - Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte

Today's featured opera on "What's Opera, Doc?" Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, with Schwarzkopf, Ludwig, Steffek, Kraus, Taddei and Berry. Bohm conducts. 1962 Angel recording.

Tune in at 10AM EST, the link is to your right, or HERE. WHFR.FM
go to "Listen Live" and your Media Player of choice will open and stream the broadcast.
Enjoy - this is a landmark recording folks - major stars in this cast, although personally, Bohm is a leeeetle slow in his tempi for my taste.

Music community helps displaced musicians

This is a truly wonderful gesture - WOD is so happy to be part of a community that cares:
Musicians Helping Musicians its one thing to open your home and provide shelter - its another thing entirely to give these people back a reason to live.
