Opera + Love sitting in a tree...
Some of my regular listeners have personal blogs (yeah, yeah, i KNOW-but then you would know who I AM, and then I lose my mysterious appeal)
A recent thread has been weaving its way around about love and its meanings. Opera, as we all know, is obsessed with the subject. So...anyone have a fave or not fave operatic love story? and why, folks, why?

Please don't hate me or think I'm being obnoxious, but my favorite operatic love story is, seriously, that Bugs Bunny episode...crap, what was it based on? The one where Elmer carries Bugs off into the sunset?
I just LOVE that.
Second fav is probably The (real) Marriage of Figaro.
um, that would be (drumroll please)
WHATS OPERA, DOC?
laughs...
the Marriage of Figaro is the very first opera I played live on the air - Every third week in July I celebrate the anniversary of WOD by playing that opera again.
:)
that kind of prescience deserves a PRIZE or something!!
Carmen ... because she's so dreamy and steamy ....
Nils - she gets WHACKED at the end of the opera! (laughs - yeah RIGHT)
Misfit - how could I hate that? Bugs in braids is pretty dreamy and steamy.
A prize! A prize!
How is it possible to decide when there are SO MANY???!!!!
But I suppose the greatest LOVE STORY has to be TRISTAN UND ISOLDE...
Funny you should mention that - the prelude to Act 3 is the weekly closing music on my show and on my blog.
Having said that, its one of the few operas I CAN'T SIT THROUGH. Mostly because it traumatizes the hell out of me every time I try. Too, too painful and sad.
BTW - welcome, welcome!!
